“Point-of-use ionization. There is sometimes a need to provide static control in a small defined area or location. This is often needed to provide static control within production equipment, in mini-environments, or to facilitate particle removal from part of a product. Ionizers used for this purpose are usually in the form of blow-off guns that work with a supply of compressed air or nitrogen, with airflow speed and direction, and distance being important parameters in their selection and siting. Cooling effects may be influenced by the use of point ionization and its effect should be considered for application purposes. Nuclear, or any of the previously described types of electrical ionization technology, may be used. It is important to choose a method of ionization and cleanliness of gas supply appropriate to the work area.” [EN 61340-5-2 clause 5.2.9.1 Types of air ionizers]
